Public Forum on Enchaning Marital Relationship through Intimacy

Saturday 23rd September 2006
P J Hilton

Sexual problems are so prevalent, that most men and women will experience them at some time during their lives. Yet, surprisingly, few of those people seek professional help according to Associate Professor Nathan Vytialingam. There are a variety of reasons why people do not seek professional help. Many people are uncertain about where to go. Some aren't aware of what the problem is, only that they are unsatisfied. Others are embarrassed or ashamed. Some even believe that the problem will just go away on its own. Some couples, when the one partner's health first fails, swear that they will stay together and work things out, just the way they did on their wedding day. But that does not mean that intimacy is no longer a part of their married life. Sexuality in the face of disability can be a fulfilling experience if a couple can communicate their needs and redefine the term ‘satisfaction’ in their lives.
